What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

During the ageing process, the skin loses elasticity and volume and we start to appear tired and less youthful. Due to repeated movements and natural sagging, fine lines start to set in the skin.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a quick and effective non-surgical way to tackle the signs of ageing. They work by preventing the facial muscles from contracting, restricting muscle movements. Reducing the muscle’s movement smoothens the appearance of fine lines, leaving you wrinkle-free.

How do Anti-Wrinkle Injections work?

Anti-Wrinkle Injections (aka “Botox”) is a prescription medication that is injected into the muscle to relax it. The purified protein works by preventing the release of acetylcholine, which is what causes our muscles to contract. They work by blocking nerve impulses that trigger muscle contractions. This helps to stop wrinkles from forming, and helps existing lines fade, which in turn, creates a smoother, more youthful look and completely transforms the texture, tone, and clarity of the skin.

Signs of ageing start to appear around the age of 30, but due to genetics, lifestyles, sun exposure, and just the modern-day world we live in this can start to happen sooner. Once dynamic lines (appear only through expression) turn into static lines (appear regardless of expression), it becomes difficult to eradicate these through treatment, hence the phrase ‘prevention is better than cure’.

Botulinum Toxin is the most popular non-surgical treatment in the world today as it works so well in helping to smooth away any forehead wrinkles, crows feet, and laughter lines.

What areas can be treated?

FAQ’s

  • It is a protein derived from a bacteria named Clostridium Botulinum.

  • Injected, it acts as a temporary block to the signals from the nerve endings to the muscle, resulting in restricted movement.

  • On average, results last 3-4 months. However, this depends on factors such as age, lifestyle and muscle strength.

  • Pain in minimal and the whole procedure only takes around 10-15 minutes. Anaesthetic can be applied if a client has a low pain threshold but isn’t really necessary.

  • Results start to show within the first week of treatment and full effects are noticeable after 14 days.

    You will have a 2 week review where we will check if any top ups need to be made.

  • As with any procedure, there can be side effects but the most commonly reported from Anti-Wrinkle Injections are headaches and migraines. These generally subside once the full effects of the treatment have taken place. Clients can sometimes feel pain at the injection site or have slight swelling and bruising. Again all common side effects but will subside within a short time after the procedure.

    Brow drooping is always a possibility when it comes to Toxin but all of our injectable treatments are carried out by our highly trained Nurse Practitioner so this is very unlikely.

  • For maximum results, 24 hours post treatment you should refrain from any alcohol, strenuous exercise, make-up application, and UVA tanning beds.

    Please remember, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, strenuous exercise, and sun exposure can affect and reduce the lifespan of your treatment.

  • If you did decide to stall your treatment for any reason, any areas that have been treated will gradually return to the way they were before any treatment began.

  • Unfortunately Anti-Wrinkle Injections are not suitable for clients that are pregnant or breastfeeding.
